Description: Play an MP3 in your mod's startup screen.
This is incredibly simple to do, but not known to many.

First off, you need an MP3, obviously. Take the MP3 and rename it "gamestartup.mp3". Place the MP3 into the following directory:

...\Half-Life\ModName\media\

When you load up your mod, it should play the MP3 you put into the media directory. You can also use this technique to change and customize the menu music of games like Counter-Strike, and the other official mods.

Have fun

If you're attempting to do this with Counter-Strike, you'll need to put it in your Counter-Strike\cstrike\media folder, if you couldn't figure that out.

Are you sure it works with your own mods?

Posted By: omega on Mar 01 2004 at 08:18:59
it does, because i use it in both owing, household death, and flf.

and doofus is entirely correct.

[edit]
note you can't use vbr mp3s. they have to be cbr.

I'm guessing people might have been renaming their file to "gamestartup" instead of "gamestartup.mp3" because of the confusing way he wrote it. So I edited it when I made my other comment.

For some strange reason There is a possible exec command that stops the playing of mp3 files at load up, so try deleting your config.cfg userconfig.cfg autoexec.cfg and valve.rc if it exists then try again
