Just what I needed, a strategy guide to an unreleased game!

Posted By: Lord Booga on Feb 10 2004 at 17:38:21
Even better yet, a strategy guide to a probably UNFINISHED game...

Just the sort of comments I expected to find.

I wonder if any info in the book is still accurate.

Can they rebuild the source without affecting the game play?

Still racing to get a better comp in time for the damn thing.

If HL2 is sufficiently finished to have a strategy guide, why arent they releasing it!?
I thought this "the source got stolen" thing was just a publicity stunt from the beginning.
Is the SDK delayed along with HL2... They might be trying to drag this out as long as possible to:

- bring more business to the computer hardware industry
- get more publicity
- trick people into liking it more ( "I've waited soooo long... it must be good," does work, however not on everyone... I, for example only want to mod it. )
- give their tech-support staff a break after all of the technical issues with Steam

how can this guy write this that would mean he has a copy.......... or does he just wing it?

Posted By: Jake on Feb 11 2004 at 04:15:30
If Prima have already written the strategy guide then they have a copy which means its pretty close to release. That's assuming that amazon is actually shipping that guide.

Jake has a good point, and it looks like it's been shipping, hell it's sales count is 400,000 so maybe, who knows?

Shenanigans.

In regards to XENO...The "source got stolen" thing was NOT a publicity stunt. They're holding back on the release to recover from the incident and also make some finishing touches to the SDK for all the developers out there waiting to code for it.

Hope this helps clear up any confusions regarding the HL2 leak and what has come of it.

In regards to whoever has the HL2 source code and that demo, we don't care if you have it, and it dosen't make you special. If anybody still has it, you should delete it.

And, Valve claims this source and demo is from an earlier build anyway (if I recall correctly), so by their word (if I'm right) that wasn't what they had ready at the time.

If I hear anything about the HL2 source leak, it better be about who did it. Nothing else.

"Can they rebuild the source without affecting the game play?"
Theyre not re-writing the source. There just finishing it for the first time.

"And, Valve claims this source and demo is from an earlier build anyway (if I recall correctly), so by their word (if I'm right) that wasn't what they had ready at the time."

Valve said a lot of things last year.

[conspiracy theory] maybe Prima stole the code so they could be the first to write an official guide![/conspiracy theory]

They say "official" Prima guide; who decides that it's official? Or is Prima just the publisher?

Posted By: rkzad on Feb 26 2004 at 17:25:18
haha that's a funny idea. By official I'm pretty sure it means that it's officially from Prima.

VALVe claims the sale of the strategy guide is fake.
